Dynamic Screen Resizing of XP in Parallels
By javester

You downloaded the latest Parallels Workstation and installed XP on your MBP. Everything is hunky-dory with Parallel's full screen support as XP takes advantage the entire screen in all its 1440x900 glory!

However, when you switch to windowed XP, the rest of the desktop is clipped.

What to do? Just to turn on Dynamic Screen Resolution on your Parallels Workstation.

To do so:
  1. Go to Parallels Workstation Preferences.
  2. Select User Interface tab.
  3. Turn off Change Mac OS X resolution
  4. Turn off your XP VM if it is running.
  5. Click the Edit button on the Configuration page.
  6. Select Options on the list.
  7. Select the VM Flags tab.
  8. Turn off Switch to Fullscreen mode automatically.
  9. Start your XP VM. It should start in Window mode.
  10. If you haven't installed the latest Parallels Tools, you should do so now. Go to the VM menu and select Install Parallels Tools. Whenever a warning is displayed by Windows, select Continue anyway.
  11. Change the resolution to something that fits on your screen (e.g. 800x600 or 1024x768)

Once that's all done, anytime you go to fullscreen mode in Parallels, the XP screen will be dynamically resized to take full advantage of the native resolution of your MacTel. When you switch back to window mode, it will snap back to the resolution setting you previously set in step 11.

Well this seems to be so easy but it still not working for me! so here is my problem, i do want to be able to see my parallels desktop in window mode when i use OSX but in full screen i want it to the max so this simple set of instructions just dont cut it for me unfortunatly first off:

Step #3 Turn off Change Mac OS X resolution

Is like the only real thing i changed the other stuff was in defult

Step #8 Turn off Switch to Fullscreen mode automatically.

This step was alredy Off

Steo #9 Start your XP VM. It should start in Window mode.

This one well never happens

I do have installed the Parallel Tools.

Where do i change resolution ? Inside My VM XP or in The Parallels Workstation EDIT Button Under Video In the List ??

Another problem is that i canot use Virtue when i am in fullscreen mode so i canot easliy switch from OSX to Windows with the HotKeys Shift+Ctrl+Left or Right arrows

But i did find a way to do it with the ShadowBook Program its a breez but i would like to be able to use Hotkeys and not depend on the sencors of my keyboard that mutch i am using MacBookPro well that about raps it up hehe any help from anyone will be greatly apresiated Thanks Guys&Girls
