Must Have Software - 05-05-2006, 12:58 AM

This topic contains a list of some "must have software" for your Mac! If you would like to add a recommendation please feel free to reply to this message!

Update 7/8/06: The list has been transfered to three different file formats (.doc and .docx and .rtf). The zip file attached to this post contains all three files. I also added a few games including iConquer!

And add to that list:
  • VirtueDesktops for virtual windows with super-kewl desktop-switching animation
  • Parallels for running Windows/Linux and other OSes inside OS X
  • Panic Transmit for the best FTP client ever invented
  • ClamXav for free, industrial-strength virus protection
  • GIMP - Photoshop power without the expense

Good choices guys!
On the Dashboard front, widget must-haves are:
  • Screenshot Plus - no need to contort your fingers to do a screenshot, just pull up this widget and point-and-click away. Its even far better than having a PrntScn key
  • Gmail Widget - check your Inbox at a glance
  • Digg Widget - follow the latest diggs
  • xCuts - for people who prefer to use keyboard shortcuts. A quick lookup list.
  • Gas - get the low-down on the cheapest gas in your area

First let us purge our machine of any product from the darkside.
This is what real Mac people use. It is free, converts WMV files to QuickTime and then use QT Pro to save it as a QT.mov file.

Package tracker is a widget not mentioned above. It is a personal favorite of my wife who love to track things.

Sing that iTune works on radio music that you listen to on iTunes radio too.

Radar in motion is Sweeeeeet.

This is such a blessing and so easy even my Mom can master it.

Great! Organizing this list is a grand idea, JPT62089. Go for it!

It would be kewl if you can organize it into two general categories. One with Switchers in mind, and a general one for the converted.

This would be even better if the site has a reviews section.

Let's see would that go in the Feedback section? No busier than this forum is it doesn't really matter. Someday, hopefully, this site will be to busy to read it all and finding things will need to be simplified. Eighteen forums is a couple to many. As soon as I settle down a bit I will try to post something constructive in the Feedback section about this. Right now I just want to rant. Must be the Moon.

TextSoap
I have been using this since, well I bought version 3 and I am still using it on both my OS 9 and OS X machines. The new version is 4.5.2 and the above link takes you to it.
Say you do get an e-mail joke you haven't seen before and would like to print it or forward it to a friend. This is how you get rid of all those forward carrots and multiple carriage returns. Plus if you just forwarded it you could be passing a virus to your friend with the PeeCee.
Just select all, open TextSoap and it is already there. Hit scrub, select all, copy, and then paste into whatever. It Rocks.

Hey JPT62089, why are you copying everything and reposting it in your post at the top. I thought you were going to consolidate it elsewhere, like in the tips or something.
