Hmmm... the Video iPod speculation April 1 was a dud. Still, it seems that everybody is still convinced that Apple will spring another iPod surprise before long especially since this March was the first time Apple had a downturn in their iPod sales.

Nothing like new toys to get people excited, right?

And did you read this research note from Pipper Jaffray? US iPod owners typically own 1.2 iPods?!? And 10% of the US population has iPods! Amazing!!!

My money is still on the Video iPod. Apple will just have to figure out battery life and a revised DRM scheme that both the studios and consumers can live with.

Apple was able to get away with murder when it first negotiated with the Music Studios 2003 with the user-friendly Fairplay DRM. I don't think the studios will fold as easily this time.

Also, they need to allow users to rip their DVDs to the bigger Video iPods, as to how they do that with the studio's consent is the trick.

Anyway I know it will be a Touch Screen Video iPod... What else could it be?

Touch Screen Video iPod it is.

The question is, how will iTunes change to take advantage of it. Logic says full-length movies, but that will be a tough cookie to crack with the studios as dyanismith suggested.

I just wish Apple gets together with TiVo and do TivoToGo already! I was so excited yesterday when I heard about the TiVo Mac client getting updated yesterday to a Universal Binary, only to be dissapointed that TiVo didn't include TiVoToGo.

It can't be technical reasons, it must be those lawyers from the studios jumping on TiVo's case not to do it.

AppleInsider

What I envision after reading the above patent article is a translucent control screen over a video display. Like a PDA, only when you touch the screen a see through scroll wheel appears, you adjust the volume by circling your finger on the screen and after 5 seconds the controls disappear.
Yeah, that's the ticket!
