Hello World!!!

Hi Folks,

'Tis are interesting times… If you told me that Macs will be running on Intel five years ago, I would have laughed at your face. Back then, if you’d recall, even Apple was giving us plenty of ammo to ridicule the x86 architecture compared to our venerable PowerPCs.

Remember the Snail, the Toasted Bunny and SteamRoller commercials?

We were smug and smirked at the Intel masses as we burnished our Macs to a high gloss.

But what a difference a few years make… here we are getting all excited about MacTels!!!

But it shouldn’t have really come as a surprise to the Apple faithful. Steve Jobs, once again, has skillfully steered Apple into a new era of innovation.

Remember when Apple was on the brink of catastrophe and Steve Jobs came in as a temporary iCEO in 1997? All the trade rags declared Apple a lost cause and even some of the Mac faithful were resigned to the deathwatch.

And what did he do at the next MacWorld? Ink a deal with MS and get an injection to the tune of $150 million with Bill Gates face on the big screen as Jobs stood to the side. Everybody was agasp at the sight of it!!!

Jobs bought just enough time for Apple and quickly launched iMacs the following year which gave the company a new lease on life.

And the innovation train kept forging ahead. In 2001 alone - Power PC G4s in the New iMacs (aka iLamps), the "big reset" with the introduction of OS X and of course, iPods in Oct 2001, which were first summarily dismissed by analysts as an overpriced MP3 player.

But with the introduction of iTunes for Windows (another “hell has frozen over” moment) and the iTunes Music Store, here we are 46 million iPods and 1 billion legal music downloads later with Apple sitting pretty with 80 percent of the MP3 player market .

And now, the age of MacTels has dawned six months ahead of schedule. Who would have thunk that Apple had a skunk works project running OS X on Intel for the past five years?!

With Microsoft Vista slipping to 2007, we believe Apple is at the cusp of another watershed moment.

And this time around, us MacIntel geeks at MTC, intend to take an active part in spreading the word. But instead of just preaching to the converted, we intend to create a forum "for the rest of us".

In the next few days, we will start posting articles here in layman's speak. To whet your appetite, here's what we have in the hopper:
  • Various Benchmarks on the different MacTels running different OSes
  • "Idiot-proof" walkthroughs on how to install alternate OSes
  • Triple-booting on MacTels
  • Gaming on MacTel
  • and more!!!
'Tis are interesting and exciting times indeed!!!!
