Listen to your sister. She is your tech support. Just surf for a day or two and see what questions pop up doing something you know. Play with your Dock and system preferences and do anything you wish. After you have played with everything in your system preferences, move across the Dock, I prefer the bottom of the screen for it, and open each of your iLife applications one at a time and play. Try iTunes first. By now you will have discovered that after digging in WinDoze for answers the Mac is a no brainer that is user freindly.

Okay one more thing...... if it was on the left side of your PeeCee it will be on the right side of your Mac. Macs have trash cans, not recycle bins. Macs have a Butterfly key. Ask your sister what that is.
That is an old school term. If she doesn't know, say butterfly C is copy on a Mac.
